Assembly Katch Achadjian, AD-35 – Know Your Government

220px-Katcho_AchadjianBorn in Lebanon, Katcho Achadjian came to California in 1971 to complete his education and pursue the American Dream. After attending Cuesta Community College, Katcho graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, it was his passion for the community led him to settle down on the Central Coast. He and his wife Araxie married in 1984, and they have a son, Hratch, and daughter, Nyri.

A lifelong community volunteer, Katcho has volunteered in support of numerous civic, service, and non-profit organizations. He has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and Chairman of San Luis Obispo’s French Hospital. Since 2008, he has also served as a mentor to college students through the Executive Partners Leadership Council at Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business.

In both his private and public service, Katcho has been a supporter of public safety. He has served as a Charter Board member of the San Luis Obispo Law Enforcement Assistance Foundation since 2002, serving as Secretary of in 2002 and Vice President from 2004 to 2010. He has been a member of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Advisory Council since 1989 serving as its Chairman from 1994 to 1995. Katcho was recognized with the California Attorney General’s Certificate of Appreciation for Support of Law Enforcement in September 2004.

The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Katcho was named a Cuesta College Distinguished Alumnus in 2007 and he was given the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Community College League of California in 2008. He was also recognized as Arroyo Grande Citizen of the Year in 1984.

Katcho has been recognized for his work in the community by two separate Governors. In 1992, Governor Pete Wilson appointed Katcho to the state Fair Board to represent our county. Then In 2006, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed him to serve as a member of the Coastal Commission, charged with protecting the beauty of California’s coastline.

Prior to his election to the Legislature, Katcho served for three terms as an elected member of the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors. Where he was able to work with his colleagues to deliver on time and balanced budgets twelve straight years. Also, they were able to put millions of dollars away in reserve for a rainy day fund.

Katcho has been a registered Republican since becoming a U.S. citizen. He has an extensive track record of helping and supporting local, state, and federal Republican candidates. In 1991, he was elected to the Central Coast Republican Committee. Katcho was also a proud founding member of the San Luis Lincoln Club.

He carries with him a distinctive work ethic which has served him throughout his life as a businessman, community volunteer, and legislator. Along with these values, he is always mindful of his Armenian heritage, and enjoys sharing the Armenian culture with others and spreading awareness of its history.
